I was just on a podcast the other day talking about the latest Marvel project Taboo and I’ve got cooking, Ultimate Hawkeye. One of the key points we talked about was how we are always fans first, coming from a place of the love for what we do. Writing comics, particularly Marvel comics, has a special place in my heart. For me it is a “madeleine moment'“ as it taps into core childhood memories from a simpler time where there was a pureness in our dreams, unpolluted by the world’s weight which now feels inescapable. When I sit down to write a comic script I go to an entirely different plane. It’s similar to many other forms of creativity such as music when we dial into a vibe and are pulled together in communion with the space and the sound. But writing is a rather solitary art. Yes, we can bounce ideas off our friends or creative partners, but when I go into the lab, so to speak, it’s just me in there listening to the characters and watching them play through the story.
